How We Met

AJ and I met at the Philadelphia Improv Theatre in 2019. We were on different Harold improv house teams. After weeks of giggling, AJ invited me over and asked if we could kiss. I was nervous with starting school and didn’t want anything distracting me. AJ respected my space, we laughed a lot, and he drove me home later. The 10 minute ride turned in to 45 due to some midnight roadwork. We talked, giggled and continued to fall in love.

A few weeks later, I was visiting my friend in Portland, Oregon. I had mixed up the terminal and gate numbers, leaving me on the opposite side of the Philadelphia airport. It was a Spirit flight so I was layered in outfits trying to save on checking a bag. I sprinted across the airport, sweating profusely, essentially “Indiana Jones’ed” ir (verb:) on to the plane, dramatically grabbing my fallen hat right as the door closed behind me. I hear “Kelso”, and look up to see my crush AJ. I was sitting two seats behind him. He was traveling cross country for his niece’s Nina's first birthday, aka, a "green flag"!!! I knew for the next five hours I could either stare at the back of his head or ask the person to switch seats. I'm glad that stranger said yes. AJ said, "you know if you wanted to kiss me you could have asked, you didn't have to stalk me across the country." So AJ and I laughed the entire flight and shared our first kiss in the sky.

We return back to the Philly Improv theater scene. After the show, we went in to the alley to hang out by our usual spot, you know near those dumpsters (romantic). AJ and I end up kissing again, scared of love and vunerability, I ran away until my foot got stuck in a sewer. This wasn't like a “cute-Rom-Com-stuck”... It was like a, "do-we-call-the-fire-department-stuck". As I’m trying to pull my foot out of this rusted open sewer #GoBirds AJ walks towards me, we kiss again, and it’s been so fun and easy since.

We're grateful to laugh with our best friend every day and want to keep doing it. To share this union with loved ones is a once in a lifetime, and we'd love to celebrate all the love in life with you!
